New Microsoft PC

Microsoft is going to put a PC to the market. They are going to make that PC compatible with Vista. It is true when the operating system looks nice then PC should also look nice. I think they are going to make that PC to take the hardware market also. It looks nice and let's see how will the performance. It is good to see that Microsoft is going to take the responsibility of getting "Don't Send" errors. Some company called Carbon Design Group has designed the PC. Here is the link for more information. Vista PC

Firefox 3 is coming...

Mozilla launched a beta of Firefox, it is a developer preview of the features and functions promised in the third major release of the popular open-source browser. Firefox 3 Beta 1 is available for testing so Mozilla can gain feedback before the software advances to the next stage in the release process. Mozilla's Firefox 3 is based on the new Gecko 1.9 platform, which includes nearly two million lines of code changes designed to fix some 11,000 issues and offer Firefox 3 add-on developers a lot to work with. "Much of the work leading up to this first beta has been around developing the infrastructure to support a bunch of exciting new features," Mozilla noted. "With this first beta, you'll get a taste of what's coming in Firefox 3, but there's still more to come, and much of what you'll see is still a bit rough around the edges." This means Firefox add-ons will not work properly with the beta version. Those add-ons include applications such as a...

USB 3.0

Intel and others plan to release a new version of Universal Serial Bus technology in the first half of 2008; it will make data transfer rates more than 10 times as fast by adding fiber-optic links alongside the traditional copper wires. Intel is working fellow USB 3.0 Promoters Group members Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Texas Instruments, NEC and NXP Semiconductors to release the USB 3.0 specification in the first half of 2008. There'll be a one- to two-year lag between the release of the specification and the availability of the technology, so USB 3.0 products should likely arrive in 2009 or 2010. The current USB 2.0 version has a top data-transfer rate of 480 megabits per second, so a tenfold increase would be 4.8 gigabits per second. Many devices don't need that much capacity, but some can use more, including hard drives, flash card readers and optical drives such as DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD. The fastest flash card readers today use IEEE 1394 "FireWire" connecti...

Sending big files via internet

Sending a large file across Internet is a problem that I have faced. I went to a site called SendThisFile.com it looks nice. There are some resents for that. First one "it's free". Second is there are no limit on file size even for the free accounts. Let me say how it works. First you have to visit the site and sign-up free account and then you can upload any file (I have tested only few types). Then you receive a link to download the file. So you can share the link with anybody. The problem is they delete your files after 3 days from their servers.(only for free accounts) In March of this year someone sent me a large file using YouSendIt. While the service was free, it required me, as the recipient, to register with an email address before I could download the file. I get a lot of SPAM, so I hate to give out my email address. SendThisFile does not require the recipient to have an account. I've used Box.net and been frustrated by their 10 meg...

gOS ???

A new operating system based on Ubuntu 7.10 and Enlightenment 17 has come out. One of my friends has downloaded it and installed on a VPC. (But still it seems some problems) Anyway it seems nice and looks like an Apple machine. They provide some basic day to day facilities on that. And it supports Google a lot and Wikipedia also. Here the article on wiki about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOS_(Linux_distribution) And also you can download its free on http://www.thinkgos.com Still it does not provide some advance stuff like development tools but I hope sooner they'll. (Currently they have what home users use most) And also there is an operating system as Goobuntu which Google uses internally. If you interested on Goobuntu then go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goobuntu

A 3D web browser

I know that I was unable to write a posting for a long time. It was because of the tight schedules of the project and I had to ramp up on completely new technologies for me. And also I had to do some R&D on the new project I have assigned. I have found a new web browser that opens its tabs in a 3d manner. And when I do search on Google for web or images then the results opens in new tabs. This seems like aero effect on windows vista but it works on XP also. (I think it works even on 2000) Here is the URL of the site and it is still on Beta testing and you can download it free http://www.spacetime.com . I have downloaded the browser but it seems like using the IE engine. But anyway it looks nice but I couldn't find a good reason to use it other than the beauty of it. But it gives a lot of working space & takes some time to start. In here I have searched on web and it displays the results.

Let’s learn ColdFusion …

ColdFusion is a simple language to learn and use primarily because it employs a tag-based syntax, which makes the transition between HTML (the language that your Web browser uses to render content) and CFML (ColdFusion Markup Language, the language that ColdFusion uses to generate that content from dynamic data) within your code very natural. Take, for example, the following HTML listing of companies (no CFML is in this code): <table> <tr> <td>13</td> <td>The Very Big Corporation of America</td> </tr> <tr> <td>14</td> <td>Ma's Homemade Pies</td> </tr> <tr> <td>15</td> <td>Shecky Records</td> </tr> </table> By using ColdFusion's tag-based syntax, you can easily generate this table dynamically from data stored in your database (the CFML is boldfaced in the following example), as follows: <cfquery name="GetCompanies" datasource="MyDatabase"...

What is a CMS ???

This is based on MCMS (Microsoft Content Management Server) The design features of CMS include the ability to create templates that define the layout of the pages for your Web site. These templates will contain placeholders for content that is created by your business users. Using the Web Author tool, users can: Create, modify, and delete pages Copy and move pages Create connected pages that share source content with other pages but display that information in different ways Submit pages for review and approval   The Authoring Connector can be used to submit a Microsoft Word document to the Web site and associate that document with a particular task that has been created in the Web site. When the author selects a task, the task itself will perform the required functions, abstracting the author from the workflow required to correctly publish the document to the Web site. Hence, it becomes as simple as using Word to create the document and then submitting the document under a chosen task...

Egogoogling

wikipedia says : Egosurfing (also called vanity searching , egosearching , egogoogling , autogoogling , self-googling , or simply Googling yourself ) Egogoogling is some kind of thing we all have done when we were on Google. It is simply searching on Google by your own name.It is better to know what the world says about you and to know what are the sites that have your name. I am pretty sure that you all have typed your name on Google but there is some more ways to have some more fun on it.Lets see for example if your name is "John Doe" probably you have typed only your name. There is a better way to know what the world says about you.Just type "John is" (type your name for John)on the Google and I am pretty sure you'll have fun. Here are some funny results I got, Amal is also an Arabic noun, meaning "hope." Chamila is a Ms Student in Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Louisville Gayan is an accompanist for the master ...

MSBuild with Cruise Control.net

MSBuild is the process that runs when you hit the command "build" (F5) on Visual Studio IDE. On VS 2003 completely that was done by the IDE and it was a black box for the developers. But on VS 2005 when you create a new project you can see a .csproj (or .vbproj) file is created and when you open that file in any text editor you can see some XML tags on that. Actually those are the parameters that were sent to do the build. The idea behind this is you can change the build process of your project. The msbuild.exe file is at " (win drive :\) \WINDOWS\ M icrosoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 ". The good thing in this is since msbuild.exe is included in .net framework you do not need an IDE to build your project. The solutions were deployed on a clean machine for testing and it have to be done daily on enterprise level solutions. And also on enterprise level solutions so many developers get involve and to minimize the conflict it has to use a version control system like VSS ...

Re - Authoring web pages for mobile devices

The web page access by using the mobile devices is increasing and since the display area and the capabilities of the mobile devices is differ from the desktop machines the web pages have to be rendered efficiently on the mobile devices. On that point it is needed to do re-authoring web pages for mobile devices. Basically it can be done manually but there are so many web pages that are highly dynamic so it is needed to have an automated way to do the web page re-authoring. There we can see two different sides of the web page access on the mobile devices. First the pages can be made mobile friendly by the server side. The second is it is also possible to render the page by the mobile device web browser. The technologies change daily on both sides frequently and getting more and more complex so at this point the needs of the standards are raised. Because of the W3C has come up with a scheme called mobileOK and they still work on it. And on the other side a top level domain has been lau...

AMD Phenom

AMD felt that the new core architecture needed a new name, and what better name to give it than the Phenom . Short for phenomenal, AMD chose the name to convey the perception that buying the processor will allow the user to experience a phenomenal level of performance. The new Phenom processors will be available in three variants : AMD Phenom FX - highest-end quad-core Phenom processor - has dual-processor capability for 8-cores on a single motherboard - targeted at workstation-grade or high-end PCs AMD Phenom X4 - high-end quad-core Phenom processor - targeted at high-end, enthusiast-grade PCs AMD Phenom X2 - dual-core Phenom processor - targeted at enthusiast-grade PCs Socket Compatibility All Phenom processors will support current Socket AM2 motherboards, as well as the newer Socket AM2+. According to AMD, the only difference between Socket AM2 and Socket AM2+ is the support for HyperTransport 3.0 which allows for a higher transfer rate of 20.8 GB/s at 2.6 GHz. Current...

Intel 80 core processor

Intel has come up with a 80 core processor and it is still on the research level. The best case in here is the Chip is running with about 175W and has a mechanism to sleep the the cores which doesn't need at that moment. You can find more details about this on http://www.intel.com/pressroom/kits/Teraflops/index.htm. This board houses Intel’s 80-Core Teraflops Research Chip. The board contains working silicon and it is the world’s first programmable chip to achieve teraflops performance while consuming very little power. Intel processors with two and four cores are here now. In the coming years, the number of cores on a microprocessor will continue to grow, launching an era of vastly more powerful computers. In order to provide the best energy efficiency and enable tomorrow’s emerging applications, the computing industry is shifting to improving performance by increasing the number of cores on future processors. With this in mind, Intel put in place its Tera-scale Computing Research P...

Grab E-mail addresses

I thought to share a C#.net method that grab all the e-mail addresses from any file and It can be used for validation too.It returns an string array and I hope that you all can add some modifications on it and use it for any purpose you want. Here is the code. public static String[] readEmails(string file) { int k = 0; StreamReader SR = File.OpenText(file); String S = SR.ReadLine(); Dictionary myemails = new Dictionary (); string pattern = @"\w+([-+.]\w+)*@\w+([-.]\w+)*\.\w+([-.]\w+)*"; Regex re = new Regex(pattern); while (S != null) { MatchCollection matches = re.Matches(S); if (matches.Count > 0) for (int i = 0; i You have to pass the file that contains the e-mail addresses as a parameter. For eg: F:\\date2.txt If you have come up with any problem in using this do not hesitate to put a comment and I hope I'll be able to answer you.

Year 2038 problem !!!

What is year 2038 problem ? Did I mess up with Y2K !! No actually here is the description of next problem with the Years .... Most programs written in the C programming language are relatively immune to the Y2K problem, but suffer instead from the Year 2038 problem. This problem arises because most C programs use a library of routines called the standard time library . This library establishes a standard 4-byte format for the storage of time values, and also provides a number of functions for converting, displaying and calculating time values. The standard 4-byte format assumes that the beginning of time is January 1, 1970, at 12:00:00 a.m. This value is 0. Any time/date value is expressed as the number of seconds following that zero value. So the value 919642718 is 919,642,718 seconds past 12:00:00 a.m. on January 1, 1970, which is Sunday, February 21, 1999, at 16:18:38 Pacific time (U.S.). This is a convenient format because if you subtract any two values, what you get is a number of...

Customized Send To >>

I have found a little command that can add and remove the items on your " send to ". Normally when we right click and go to "send to" item we could see only some limited locations. But what's if we want to change it ?? It is very easy you just have to type the command "sendto" on Run which is located at start menu. Then it will prompt a folder which contains some items as on the image. (Example is given by using my machine) Then you just have to remove the items which you do not want to see on "send To" and paste the shortcuts of the locations that you wish to be added on "send To". After this right click on any folder and you will see new locations on the menu.

Some more on blogging

I have found some more customizing methods on blogs based on blogger. Here are some of them and I think it's better if you have a backup of the template before try on these. Add new column - This is a simple task and what you need is only a little knowledge in CSS and HTML.Here are the steps to add new column on your blog and I have done it based on template "Minima". Don't worry you just have to do a slight change to apply these on other templates. You have to write a new CSS class for the new column that's going to insert. For eg: #left-sidebar-wrapper { float: left ;width: 220px; } Other than this example you can write more for the CSS class. Before the <div id="main-wrapper"> tag you have to define the div tag of new column. So paste the code given below immediately before the main-wrapper div tag. <div id='left-sidebar-wrapper'> <b:section class='sidebar' id='left-sidebar' preferred='yes'/> </d...

MyClipBoard :: A free & openSource project

It is happy to inform you about a free & open source project which was done by using C#.net. Arjuna is a wonderful person who works with us.He has been successful in developing a tool to manage windows clipboard and made it available to the community as free software including the source code. The tool developed by Arjuna is so simple and easy to use. Also it works with any application, unlike the Office clipboard tool which is restricted to the Office application suite. Objective behind this development was of to find ways and means to make one’s life easier (a very good intention) in day to day work assignments. Name of the tool is “ MyClipboard ” and the executables and the source code is available in SourceForge . Arjuna has written this using .net and windows clipboard API. The project details and downloads are available on http://sourceforge.net/projects/myclipboard . Here are the guidelines to use it as same as Arjuna said. Each time you place an item on the clipboard this i...

A dream came true

One my dream was to have a web site of my own.I know that was a little dream. So I started blogging on blogger.com and it was really a good experience I've ever get. I was on the way with postings and I felt hard when I am telling others my blog as " gayanonline.blogspot.com " because it was really long. The main thing in here is they can not remember my blog address. After about 4 months (I have started blogging on March 2007) I was lucky to get one of my own URL for the blog. The content was not moved and still I am blogging on " blogspot.com ".The service in here just redirect you to my blog when you request by the URL " www.gayanb.co.nr ". So I hope if you are a blogger you'll feel the same way I felt. Here are the steps to get an URL like this. And also if you have found a better place for this please share it with others also as a comment. You just have to go to www.freedom...

Boost Your Blog Traffic

Many first time bloggers automatically assume that once their blog is setup and they put a few posts on it, they will get some hits and regular readers. This is quite untrue. You won’t get any traffic if no one knows about your website. In this article I hope to tackle these problems and discuss some of the common ways bloggers and webmasters drive more traffic to their site by understanding the user. I have found a place which says how to increase your blog traffic and I have done some changes according to my feelings. Blog Usability Before I get into getting your name out there, your blog has to have some style. Most web users are instantly turned off by tacky site designs or extreme neon colors. I know I won’t stay at a website too long if the layout or navigation annoys me. The goal is to have a unique blog, different than all the other weblogs on the net. The one thing I really stress to others is making it easy for your readers to contact you. It shouldn’t take a reader more than...

I thought of inserting a large image of the processor. And to see more clear image with the text which describes all the parts on it please click on the image. Intel came up with an Core 2 Quadro with the code name "Kentsfield" which has 4 cores on it.

Core 2 Duo vs. Dual Core

'Dual-core' is just a generic term for any cpu that has 2 processors on the 1 chip. 'Quad core' would be the generic term for a cpu with 4 processors on the 1 chip. Dual core is simply a generic term referring to any processor package with two physical CPUs in one. The Pentium D, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo and Athlon X2 are all current CPUs that have dual cores in one package. The Pentium D is simply two Pentium 4 Prescott cpus inefficiently paired together and ran as dual core. The Core Duo is Intel's first generation dual coreprocessor based upon the Pentium M (a Pentium III-4 hybrid) made mostly for laptops (though a few motherboard manufacturers have releaseddesktop boards supporting the Core Duo CPU), and is much more efficiently than Pentium D. The Core 2 Duo is Intel's second generation (hence, Core 2) processor made for desktops and laptops designed from the ground up to be fast while not consuming nearly as much power as previous CPUs. Note - Intel has d...

G-Space Vs. Gmail Drive

I got 2 extensions or plug ins which enables to use the Gmail space to store our files.Basically both of them uploads the files into the mail account as mails which has attachments. Those attachments are the files we are uploading.Ok the idea is pretty simple. We can forward them to others also. But which one is the better solution ??? G-Space - This extension allows you to use your Gmail Space (2.8 GB and growing) for file storage. It acts as an online drive, so you can upload files from your hard drive and access them from every Internet capable system. This is what the Firefox site says about this but my idea is we should have the Firefox to use this. GMail Drive - GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and dr...

Michelin Tweel Airless Tire

I have found some pretty interesting thing which is a tire which doesn't fill with air.And you can find more and more on it by just click on the image. But there is a long way to go for this and this is on the start and it has some problems. Here is one thing, The Tweel does have several flaws (aside from the name). The worst is vibration. Above 50 mph, the Tweel vibrates considerably. That in itself might not be a problem, but it causes two other things: noise and heat. A fast moving Tweel is unpleasantly loud [Source: CBS News]

Macs do Windows, too

Playstation 3 vs. Xbox 360

Microsoft Xbox 360 - Microsoft is positioning the Xbox 360 console as the center of a digital connected home - providing much more than just game play. The way they are talking about it, it almost seems like it could even supplanting the Media Center PC. Powered by a custom-made IBM PowerPC-based three-core chip running at 3.2GHz, and supported by 512MB of GDDR3 RAM, the new Xbox has the raw processing power to deliver more than all but the most hot-rodded PCs can today. Video and graphics performance is powered by a new ATI GPU running at 500MHz, with 10MB of embedded DRAM. Sony Playstation 3 - The big deal with the Playstation 3 is that it sports Sony's new Cell Processor that was jointly developed by IBM, Sony Group and Toshiba Corporation. It also features a new graphics processor (RSX) co-developed by NVIDIA Corporation and SCEI, and XDR memory developed by Rambus Inc. To really rub it in, it also adopts BD-ROM (Blu-ray Disc ROM) with maximum storage capacity of 54 GB (dual...
